Oscar winning director James Cameron's return to the big screen with "Avatar Movie," will be twelve years, yes, 12 years, in the making. James Cameron who was responsible for the biggest box office - and (almost) Oscar winning film in history, "Titanic," is hard at work on a CG animated film as his follow up to "Titanic."
"Avatar" is the story of a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival.
STARRING: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Wes Studi, Lola Herrera, Peter Mensah, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Laz Alonso
DIRECTOR: James Cameron
My Take:
No, this is not the anime, Avatar, the Last Airbender (that one is being helmed by M. Night Shyamalan), but rather a different concept altogether. This is a story of a man who tries to make his way as a miner by combining with an alien during an interplanetary war in which aliens can make themselves manifest by possessing human bodies – avatars. James Cameron only makes movies at least once or twice per decade and this almost 10 year movie in the making is making us salivate at the prospect of anew universe altogether, a new star wars possibility! I am bracing for great special effects (after all Cameron envisioned Terminator), a great story, and sequels! I am already looking forward to the playdate, am I giddy already?
Out December 18, 2009.
