Most Anticipated Movie of 2009

WATCHMEN

The R-rated movie "Watchmen" is based on the 12-part DC Comics series written by Alan Moore and featuring art by Dave Gibbons and is directed by Zack Snyder, whose last film "300," was the first movie box office blockbuster of 2007.

It all begins with the paranoid delusions of a half-insane hero called Rorschach. But is Rorschach really insane or has he in fact uncovered a plot to murder super-heroes and, even worse, millions of innocent civilians? On the run from the law, Rorschach reunites with his former teammates in a desperate attempt to save the world and their lives, but what they uncover will shock them to their very core and change the face of the planet! Following two generations of masked superheroes from the close of World War II to the icy shadow of the Cold War comes this groundbreaking comic story - the story of "Watchmen."

STARRING: Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Matthew Goode, Billy Crudup, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Stephen McHattie
DIRECTOR: Zack Synder

My Take:
Watchmen is the superhero story which is anti-superhero. Graphic novels are slowly creeping into Hollywood with recent hits like 300, Batman, and now, Watchmen. I could never imagine the movie actually mirror the greatness of this masterpiece from Moore and Gibbons but after seeing some teaser trailers, I am much impressed. It tries to capture a dark alternate universe of 1980s where the cold war with the Soviet Union threatens to wipe up humanity. A retired superhero take matters into his hands by instigating a series of events that will unite mankind and stop them from self-destruction. Quite a complex story right? This is aside the visual galore that is sure to salivate all graphic novel fans! Next up, I am waiting for the Sandman movie, cmon Neil Gaiman, give it a green light!

Out March 6, 2009.
