SM Nagamall Update

Well this is shaping up to look like SM mega A already only that it is located in Cubao. The rounded entrance to the typical box type architectural design of SM malls makes SM City Naga a replica of the SM Mega A portion of Megamall. A friend even suggested that if you pronounced SM Nagamall really fast it will rhyme with that familiar SM branch.

Why located in Cubao? Well, we still have that Naga Colisuem perched on the middle like the ruins of Rome's Colosseum. Then, we have the Farmer's Market on the way and not be left out of the similarity is the already functional Central Bus Terminal. Already under heavy negotiations is the erection of the MRT at Panganiban Drive with initially proposed stations at Sampaguita Tourist Inn, Isarog, Mayon, Sol and of course, Casureco II. All we need is Gateway and we are all set!

Projected to open in January 2009, by no less than my boss who until now doesn't want to own up to his mistake mainly because we lost around 10 million pesos in contracted energy, the REAL soft opening was pushed back to April 2009. The impending traffic is what I am worried about. I can already envision myself taking Magsaysay and Diversion routes which are less or equally traffic heavy on my way to and from the office.

Anyway, what is a little sacrifice for commercialism? I am hoping for National or Powerbooks stalls, Filbars for my Magic the Gathering hunger, and of course the movie houses which were already confirmed (4 at that). Why else would we still plan trips to Manila? We now have our own mall to cool off to!

Below are some pictures taken during the construction phase:

Not even operating yet and i can imagine it losing money in opportunity losses and overruns already. I wonder how other SMs fared in their construction stages.

oh well, happy to know that these construction woes plague everybody, hehe.
